We were told just 30 minutes before our scheduled time of 1PM (so obviously we had everything packed away at this point) that the move would be delayed until 5 PM, but the movers didn’t arrive until after 6 PM! This led to food spoilage, an unhappy goldfish without his tank, and left my mum, who is undergoing chemo, completely drained and without the items she needs.
Mum voiced her concerns to the office/receptionist but we later learnt that wasn’t passed onto anyone.
At the start of the move we spoke to Jake himself and asked for a reduction in price due to the extreme delay and short notice, Jake rattled off the vague T&Cs on his website, which basically just state that delays happen. And sure, I get that—but there has to be a reasonable limit.
A 2-3 hour delay? Understandable. But over 6 hours, told to us only 30 mins prior and pushing the move into peak hour traffic AND into noise restriction periods, they finished after 9PM. Really, you think that’s acceptable?
I suggested a one-hour deduction as a fair compromise after my mum was having no luck getting through to him. He’d rather talk over you than listen. I thought this was reasonable, but he only begrudgingly offered $50.
When I replied that was disappointing and that I’d leave a poor review due to this experience and HIS customer service, he became agitated, insisting that we could “just cancel the move”—as if that was even an option at 6:30 PM on a Friday night with my mum’s medication and bed packed up. Her lease is ending and she’s battling cancer —We’re not moving her for the fun of it. Explained this to Jake but there was zero compassion. He just wanted us to cancel the move rather than face criticism.
Thankfully the move went ahead but when it came to payment turns out Jake had reduced the discount to $30 but didn’t even tell us himself—despite having our number, he had the workers pass on the message instead.
The movers themselves were fantastic, but the way this was handled by Jake left my mum stranded between homes for six+ hours and in tears.
We were also hit with an additional fee as the fridge was upstairs as it’s a townhouse which, should have been established in the initial quoting.
I wouldn’t recommend this company unless you’re prepared for major delays and poor communication.
Jake you could have done the right thing mate and acknowledged this stuff up. Really disappointing that you treat your customers this way.Read more
