The blog discusses the experience of an expat who frequently travels between Australia and the UK, changing their residential status every 2-4 years. The author shares details about their fourth international move, which is the first time they have used the moving company Palmers. They received excellent service since the Palmers’ team worked quickly and efficiently to provide the best moving experience.
We’re interested in learning about where you’re moving from and to, and what motivated you to make the decision to leave. Can you share your experience with us?
We travel regularly between Australia and the UK and the base of our residential status alternates between the two countries on a 2-4 year rotation. This is the fourth time we have moved internationally and the first time we have used Palmers to do so.
From our initial contact with the Home Relocation Consultant to the final stages of leaving Australia with the Move Coordinator, to the guys that completed the uplift, the standard of service has been impeccable. Clear, concise instructions, along with thorough information and reassurance were provided. We literally cannot fault these guys!
We recognize that choosing a trustworthy moving company can be a challenging undertaking. Would you mind sharing the method you used to select the perfect one from the many options available?
We registered with Sirelo and they sent requests for quotes out to five different companies. One of the companies did not bother to contact us, two contacted us the same day and two within the week. We also acquired a quote from a local removals company we had sourced independently.
Two of the quotes were considerably higher priced than the other two we received but one company (Palmers) came in at a much lower price. Three of the consultants that attended to quote were friendly and approachable, however, an employee from Palmers was not only amicable but especially knowledgeable on the process (we knew that he was factually correct in the things he was saying because we have moved internationally many times). We especially liked the way he included information that we had forgotten to action before the move so that was really helpful for us. Like a memory prompt!
Now, onto the exciting part! Can you describe your moving day and whether everything went according to plan?
The guys arrived promptly when they said they would (7.30) Prior to their arrival we were asked to make sure there was sufficient space for them to park outside the front of the house as we lived on a busy road with permit parking only.
We obtained orange cones to place outside and with the neighbours’ cooperation ample space was left for their van. When the guys arrived it became apparent that although the space we had marked off for them was perfect in location, because of the trees outside, this meant they could not park there as the van was very high and the branches were very low! We had to contact our neighbours further down the road and ask them if they would mind moving their cars so we could reposition the van. This proved slightly problematic as a couple of the neighbours were getting children ready for school and it was quite early in the morning but the guys waited patiently until the neighbours could oblige. They busied themselves by organising and dividing up rooms of the house for packing. Once the van was in position, the guys worked quickly and independently, packing carefully and efficiently and occasionally using each other for heavier pieces.
Could you offer some helpful suggestions for others to have a smoother moving day?
Ensure you have not only sufficient space outside of your home for the van but that the space is safe and accommodates for height and length of vehicle.
The guys at Palmers provide a packing service – find somewhere to go while they do this! We stayed in the house, thinking we could move from room to room as they worked – this does not work!!! We decided to take the dog out and go for breakfast and they called us when they had finished. Much less stressful for everyone! It really is pointless packing anything yourself because Palmers will repack it themselves. Better to let them be solely responsible for the entire uplift.
Do you maybe have any other comments about your removal experience?
I was very happy with the way everything progressed. We actually commenced our process quite late, giving ourselves only four weeks to find a removals company and apply for the ToR and organise the transport for the dog and the cat. Everything came together very quickly and very efficiently, thanks to Palmers.
