Although some expats might claim moving abroad is a hassling endeavor full with obstacles along its journey, this experience was no such thing. To find out what the key to this successful international move was, dive into the experience and discover valuable tips!
We were returning to Hawaii after completing a fulbright fellowship in Newcastle, Australia. We had a positive experience with the move. We appreciated the timeliness and responsiveness of the international moving company as well as the scheduler who provided tips to ensuring a fast uplift.
We did as much preparation as possible prior to the uplift day which resulted in a 90 minute pack and move experience. This allowed us to leave our residence with enough time during daylight to travel to Sydney. We look forward to receiving our goods.
We initially reached out to OSS World Wide Movers as they were the preferred international moving company. They also were the most responsive to our questions and allowed us the time to make a decision. We entertained other quotes which were priced much higher, the international moving costs from our moving company were totally acceptable.
We also read reviews on OSS and asked around to learn more about the moving experience. They had positive customer reviews and a positive reputation. This came through in our interaction with the Team. They also made the experience as smooth as possible including payment options and scheduling.
We were given a two-hour window. We did our final preparation of items such as removing linen from beds ensuring things were organized for packing and feet taken off of furniture pieces which may be damaged in transit (we had a past experience with an antique cabinet which lost its feet through a different moving company).
The team arrived and I walked them through the residence identifying the items for the move. The uplift team brought their gear in and began the packing process. Within 90 minutes everything was done and removed from the residence. The team were even mindful of their own rubbish.
Preparation is key when moving. I reviewed the recommended list OSS provided and did some research on how to prepare for a move. In the days leading up to the move, I purged items and organized items as well to decrease my furniture volume. On the day I put things in areas which would expedite the packing. This included pulling things out of cabinets, organizing linens, and household goods. My recommendation is to plan purge and organize. Do research on effective moving strategies as well as identifying ways to expedite the packing on the actual day. Lastly remember to breathe.
