In the end, I decided to hire a truck from Sixt, buy a trolley from Bunnings, and my wife and I got it done by ourselves, whilst also trying to look after our infant.
We thought by booking with a local company that wasn’t offering the absolute lowest rates, that we’d get reliable and professional service. How wrong we were!
To add insult to injury, here’s the email exchange I had with Ally during the booking process where I specifically asked about scheduling:
Me: “In researching different removalists, it seems like a common complaint I see on forums is when the removalists don't show up at the time booked. What is your policy on bookings and do you provide any guarantees that the truck will show up within a certain time frame?”
Ally: “We have only ever had issues with turning up if there was a mechanical issue with the trucks. We get these serviced regularly so it happens very rarely.”Read more

Con's: 1. The manager called me saying that he would put on an extra worker without extra charge - movers show up tell me that I'd have to pay for the extra worker. The extra person end up leaving because of family emergency.
2. They rocked up 2 hours late
3. Whilst I appreciate that the company is not ageist, they hired 2 older men who were moving at snail's pace. Luckily we had friends pitching in- wee had already removed all the boxes and small things. What should have been a 2-hour job was a 3.5-hour job - all they had to do was move a dining set, 1 couch, 1 TV and TV stand, 1 queen bed, 3 chest of drawers, and 2 desk and chairs and a couple of pots of plants! Not even fridge and washing machine.
I moved more than 10 times for the past 10 years because of my line of work so I know what the usual pace is meant to be and this is 2 to 3 times slower than usual!

I booked a packing service and move for a 2 bedroom apartment. At the last minute the booking was brought a day sooner meaning that I was not prepared for the move. Having used professional packers before I did have an expectation of packers who could assist me. However, I had movers who did their best but they were clearly not experienced packers who offered an efficient service. The packing wasn’t done with care nor was any kind of labelling done.
At their recommendation I added an additional mover - however, I didn’t see the additional mover really improving the speed with which the items were loaded on to the truck. The movers themselves were incredibly pleasant but not particularly fast.
Ultimately, moving the pack and move sooner has negatively affected me financially. Furthermore, the poor quality of the packing has meant some of my breakable items weren’t well packed and were damaged in transit though I haven’t finished unpacking yet.
I made contact to express my disappointment with the service and 3 days later I have had zero response. Sadly despite coming highly recommended the service was incredibly poor and I could not recommend them to anyone.Read more

The job was done well and efficiently so I have no issue with the actual service. However they were very late to arrive. We had a schedule to keep and I had to call up to check on where they were rather them giving me an update. I was told that they were completing another job, and two months later when they finally replied to my email they said they had a mechanical issue.
They also overcharged (my husband paid without knowing our agreement). When I have emailed them they wrote back in an unfriendly tone disagreeing, not even apologising for the late service. I responded and detailed my calculations to show them the overcharged amount and so far no response. Job was done in mid Aug. It is now Nov and no resolution.
