I recently used Brisbane Moving and Storage and cannot speak highly enough of the experience. I am extremely disappointed with the service we received from BMS Removalists. While the team arrived on time and prepared, the experience quickly deteriorated. We had made every effort to streamline the process by packing all of our belongings into boxes and placing them at ground level, which was appreciated by the crew.
Unfortunately, during the move, significant damage occurred to both our old and new homes. One of the removalists, Matt, made my wife feel uncomfortable and unsafe after she questioned some damage to the wall at the top of the stairs in our new home. She was visibly distressed, and, through tears, urgently asked me to return from the old house to assist her. I was later informed by Dwayne that Matt had been “stood down” for two weeks due to this incident, although I believe a stronger response would have been more appropriate. This behaviour was witnessed by the other team members, one of whom expressed genuine concern, offering his apologies and comfort.
Additionally, the team had to make two trips, which had not been originally planned and this was the result of the truck not being large enough. It was also clear that the crew did not make full use of the available space in the truck, leaving a large secondary area unused. This extra trip, particularly given that BMS was being paid hourly, was frustrating. We had done our due diligence with BMS ahead of time to ensure an efficient move, and this delay added unnecessary time and cost. Furthermore, the removalists left several items behind at the old home, which I had to collect the following day. While not a major issue, it was an inconvenience.
Regarding the damage to our property, Dwayne assured us that the wall damage would be covered by BMS, but that any damage to our belongings would not be. After a lengthy back-and-forth, Dwayne offered a one-hour refund for the additional trip. We filed a claim with our insurance provider, which was accepted and resulted in the replacement of several items, including our refrigerator and outdoor dining table. However, the claim seemed to have a negative impact on our insurance renewal, with the provider citing the claim related to the move. Despite this, I cannot commend our insurer enough for their handling of the claim.
What has been particularly frustrating is the lack of follow-up from Dwayne. Initially, Dwayne did attend our new home to sight all damages and provide a follow-up service. Since then, and despite repeated attempts to contact him by phone and text message, he has avoided these messages and calls. When reaching the office, I have been told that Dwayne would be contacted to take my call, but I was repeatedly put on hold, being told ‘I will just see if he wants to take your call’, only to then be told that Dwayne would “call you tomorrow.” It has now been almost four months since the move, and we are no closer to resolving the issue of damage repair compensation for both properties. At this point, it seems unlikely that BMS will cover any of the costs.
Given the lack of accountability and follow-through, I cannot recommend BMS Removalists. The entire experience has been frustrating and disappointing.
