Smooth move to New Zealand

What were your reasons for moving? What was the experience like?

I wanted to be closer to friends in New Zealand and desired a new challenge. Life is short so it was time to make a change and thus, decided to move from Perth in Australia to Dunedin in New Zealand. I researched some companies and settled with Allied Pickfords. They were great from start to finish. Everything went off without a hitch and they were happy to answer any questions along the way. The packing team was great and made what could have been overwhelmingly easy. They helped with extra boxes and lots of assurance about the process, which put my mind at rest.

What made you choose this mover? Did you do any research?

I did a bit of research to find the right mover and decided on Allied because they answered my enquiry quickly and were great at explaining the process from start to finish. The paperwork was easy to complete and file with customs as Allied did everything for me. Different insurance options were explained fully to me so I made the best choice for me. I am very happy that I chose Allied as they basically did everything for me except fill out the paperwork and pack the boxes. I had underestimated how much stuff I’d take and the extra boxes and additional cost were no trouble at all.

Take us through your moving day – did everything go as planned? What worked and what didn’t?

I booked my uplift two weeks prior to actually flying out to New Zealand which made things even easier. It felt good to know that my possessions were already on their way when I left Australia. Two crew members came to up lift my packed boxes and were happy to offer advice when it was obvious, I needed extra boxes. They helped pack them as well as putting my mountain bike in a special transit container. Loading the boxes was easy as the crew came prepared with trolleys and extra boxes. I probably don’t need the extra stuff I packed but the additional cost was so worth it just for peace of mind.

Based on your experience, what are your top tips you’d like to share to help others for their own moves?

• Be ruthless when deciding what to take. Try not to double up on stuff. You can always replace at the other end.
• Measure out the space you’ve booked in a garage or room if you can. That way you can see how many boxes you’ll need.
• Don’t be afraid to ask for help and advice, that’s what the movers are there for. Make use of their knowledge, they do this every day and have probably encounters your issue many times.
• Have a garage sale or sell your stuff via various apps. You’ll have cash for a nice treat then.
• Try and enjoy the experience. It’s exciting, you’re starting a new life somewhere that you want to be.

Were you surprised by the cost of your move? Why do you think that is?

The moving costs were cheaper than expected. I’d already booked 1.5 cubic meters so adding the same again I expected it to be the original price doubled but it was cheaper than thought.

Any final thoughts or comments you’d like to share?

I really enjoyed the experience and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Allied for your future move. I’m really happy in my new home waiting for my things to arrive. It’ll be like Christmas unpacking everything and rearranging things when they arrive.
