This blog offers advice on selecting a mover to navigating the packing process and dealing with the inevitable stress of moving day, and some practical tips and lessons learned along the way. Whether you’re planning an international move yourself or just curious about what it takes, We hope that this experience from our customer helps you prepare for your own adventure!

What Was Your Moving Experience to Australia Like?

My husband and I were relocating from Australia to New Zealand. We had 3 bedrooms contents, a lounge area, a living area, a dining area, a bathroom contents, and an outdoor area contents as well as personal items. Some heavy furniture such as dining, sofa, etc. We engaged OSS International Removalist to ship our contents. My first interaction was with the salesperson. He was professional, patient, and helpful and provided all the necessary information needed for me to have confidence in OOS International Removalist.

What Kind of Research Did You Do to Choose Your Mover?

Yes, I did my research and looked at reviews and experiences from other clients. I picked from two reputable moving companies with a 4.5 to 5-star rating. I had to go back and forth with both companies and try and negotiate the prices with shipping costs and insurance costs. In the end, I chose OSS because they came out cheaper than the other Company. The other company was also very good but it came to pricing and OSS was more competitive. I had to negotiate the price for a while to get the best rate

Moving Days Can Be Stressful – How Did You Experience Yours?

It took 2 days to pack all our contents. The moving team arrived on time and firstly I informed them of the locations of the contents. Then each member of the team was allocated to a specific area e.g. one mover allocated to the first bedroom, 2nd mover allocated to 2nd bedroom, 3rd mover to the living area, 4th mover to the dining area, etc… The moving days went smoothly. The packing staff were excellent and made our experience less stressful. They were professional, polite, helpful, cheerful, and very knowledgeable about the quarantine requirements, etc. I am glad we selected OSS International Removalist as our shipping Company.

Now That You’ve Moved Do You Have Any Advice or Tips For Others?

  1. Do your homework. Once I established the moving company I made myself a task list and as I went along and completed the tasks for my home country and moving country, I ticked off the tasks and followed up on the incomplete tasks
  2. Confirm with the shipping company the packing dates and once established start organizing the contents
  3. It is vital to read all the information provided by the moving company esp. the quarantine requirements. Certain countries are very strict on biosecurity.
  4. It is a very good time to discard items or give to charity if not needed. We gave a lot away to charity.
  5. Take photos of valuable items. Prepack contents like linen, clothes, and other personal items and record them on the boxes. I requested company boxes so that I could pack items and label the contents on the boxes so that the movers could inspect the boxes and then seal them
  6. Leave the fragile items and big items like furniture or packers

The downside is that the transit took longer than expected and the shipment arrived later than expected.
